Summary
This project explores how justice-oriented STEM education can strengthen young people’s disaster resilience. It connects learning about hazards, climate data, infrastructure and health risks with questions about unequal vulnerability, community knowledge and participation in preparedness and recovery.
Working with partners in the UK, Germany, Estonia and South Korea, we are developing a disaster-education framework through a scoping review, collaborative workshops and stakeholder engagement. The work centres young people and disaster-affected communities, with attention to ethical and inclusive approaches.
Objectives
- Develop a framework linking STEM learning, social justice and youth-centred disaster resilience.
- Identify educational needs and approaches, including digital games and experiential learning.
- Define ethical ways to involve young people and affected communities in disaster education.
